  • Rani is an angel now

    HemRaj Singh | Oct 26 2007

After playing a fallen woman in ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ Rani Mukherjee is all set to turn into an angel in her next venture. We are talking about the next Yashraj flick which Rani is a part of. Rani will be an angel with a golden heart who comes down on earth to make life better for others. And we can safely predict that in the process of making the world a better place for others, the angel would get involved herself.

It seems that Bollywood is going a bit supernatural with Esha having already played a ghost in ‘Darling’ and mega star Amitabh Bachchan playing God in ‘God Tussi Great Ho’, a ghost in ‘Bhootnath’ and djinn in ‘Alladin’.

Rani has taken her role very seriously and is very sincerely working on it. She has given up her favourite fish dishes so as to feel pure and pious from inside, sources tell.

The film is yet to be titled and will be released in February contrary to the earlier reports about a December release.

  • Rani loves playing prostitute

    HemRaj Singh | Oct 26 2007

Of late Rani Mukherjee has been playing the fallen woman a little too often but that is no coincidence because she loves playing such roles, Rani revealed. However, she also insisted that the similarity is only on the surface level and the characters she played in ‘Laaga Chunri Mein Daag - Journey Of A Woman’ and ‘Saawaria’ were very different at

    a deeper level. She says:

I play very different kinds of prostitutes in ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Laaga Chunari…’ The woman in ‘Saawariya’ has no problem with her profession, whereas in the other film it’s completely different… No one goes into prostitution willingly. But there’re compulsions and compulsions.

She also revealed that her character in ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ goes through a several changes from a ’simple homely girl’ to a ‘high class hooker in Mumbai’. The change of personality was made to reflect in the dresses she wore. Rani told that the transformation of the homely girl to the prostitute had to be complete. She says:

In ‘Laaga Chunari…’ it was very important for me to look completely different as the innocent, carefree girl in Varanasi and then this prostitute in Mumbai.

Certainly, it delivered quite a jolt to the audience and that’s what Rani wanted, she said. In her own words:

The shock value had to come through. My director Pradeep Sarkar, my hairstylist, my costume designer and I got together and spent hours creating contrasting looks for me as Badki in Varanasi and Natasha in the film. It’s so important to have a team that makes your character look convincing.

Sadly, the film despite the presence of immensely talented actors like Anupam Kher, Jaya Bachchan and Konkana Sen apart from Rani failed to impress the viewers.

  • Salman speaks about Bhansali

    Arpita Mukherjee | Oct 26 2007

After the Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali blockbuster ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, the actor-director duo is once again back in Sanjay’s latest directorial venture ‘Saawariya’.

In an interview with CNN-IBN Salman shared stories of coziness with the director. According to Salman, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is always open to suggestions and at the same time, the director knows clearly on what he is working.

If ever Salman would go over board with his suggestions, the director would give him a mild rebuff with the words, ‘This is not a David (Dhawan) film. It is my film.’

Such is Bhansali’s eye for clarity that he also regulates the pitch of his actors’ laughter to suit the mood of the film.

  • Shahid and Kareena's last kiss

    Arpita Mukherjee | Oct 26 2007

They kissed each other goodbye. Well this could be the end of any tragic love story on the silver screen, but though they did bid adieu to each other in real life their passionate lip lock kiss was the happy ending of their latest (or who knows their last ) film together. No prize for guessing about whom I am writing about, definitely about the sexy beauty of Tinsel town Kareena Kapoor and the chocolaty hero of Bollywood Shahid Kapur on the sets of their latest film ‘Jab We Met‘.

The couple’s earlier films together - Fida, 36 China Town and Chup Chupke proved quite a damper. However, film analysts believe that their latest film together - Jab We Met could become a hit, especially following the recent break-up of the couple.

Shahid and Kareena maintained a steady relationship together for quite sometime. What made Kareena split from her loyal boyfriend few knows. Shahid seems to have taken this break-up quite bravely. He had spoken on camera that he was willing to work with Kareena in future.

In the meantime, Kareena has found solace in the arms of the handsome Pataudi scion Saif. Whether Kareena’s career will get fresh oxygen from Saif, who is now a hot property of Bollywood with his series of hits, it is left to time to tell.
