Mira Nair’s name is amongst the top filmmakers in the world. With her Salaam Bombay making its way into the Oscars, ever since the master craftswomen has made some stupendious movies with great traditional values. Her last The Namesake starring Tabu and Irfan Khan which was an adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel created some waves in the Indian circuit. News has it that the Indian American directors movie The Namesake is a huge hit in Poland.

The movie is been screened in about eight multiplexes in the Polish capital and many other theatres across the globe. The plot based on an Indian family which is torn between traditions and modernity garnered some applauding response. The president of the Indian Polish Cultural Commitee, in praise of Indian movies said,

Tabu has extraordinary range and depth. It is great to realise that this movie is very realistic unlike other Bollywood masala films and this gives a sophisticated profile to Indian film directors in Poland.

Riki Rana, son-in law of famous singer Talat Mahmood, who is a businessman in Poland is of the opinion that the Indian market should bring in more and more sophisticated movies into Poland. The general belief amongst Indians settled there is that the movies would do well in Poland which will be a great boost for Indian cinema.

The overall success of the movie in different pockets of the world is commendable. The Namesake reached the top 20 movies in the North American box office. Not only that, the movie adds to its credit of being the movie that broke the 10-year opening week box office record at the Paris.

With such kind of responsed for Indian cineman, the industry must be overwhelmed and proud to be counted as one of the best after Hollywood. Though the standards of movies are increasing due to international collaborations, its very inspiring to see talent in the country grow internationally.
