Finally she did it and defeated the 'racism' in a dignified manner. Yes, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty beat out Jermaine Jackson to win the UK's Celebrity Big Brother and bagged an estimated £ 100,000 in prize money.

Shetty said,

It's truly been a roller coaster ride. The highs, the lows, each one has taught me so much.

The 31-year-old Indian star won the 63% of public's support beating Jeramine Jackson into second place and Dirk Benedict into third place. Shilpa, the target of racial abuse and bullying during her stay in the house led to a record 40,000 complaints to media regulators.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Treasury chief Gordon Brown and Indian Finance Minister P. Chidambaram have commented on the incident, which South Asian and anti-racist groups said revealed the face of racism in Britain.

Shetty defended fellow contestant Jade Goody, who repeatedly reduced the Indian actress to tears by shouting at her, calling her cooking untrustworthy, mocking her accent and calling her 'Shilpa Poppadum.'

Shilpa defended Jade, saying she didn't want to see Goody branded a racist. She said,

Things happen, people make mistakes and we all learn from them. But I can say one thing for sure. Jade didn't mean to be racist. She isn't a racist.

I really don't want to leave England putting anyone in trouble. This country has given me so much. I just want to thank all of Great Britain for giving me this fantastic opportunity to make my country proud.

Well congratulations to the lady as she tackled the whole episode of racism in a dignified manner and was a deserving winner. This is surprising that none of three finalists were British. The other two finalists were American.
