Considered as the most enduring divas of the Bollywood Rekha and Shabana Azmi will be seen once again together in a movie after 30 years. The last time the Indian audience sought their chance to feast on these beauties together was in Raaste Pyar Ke.
The movie that they are likely to be seen together after this long gap will be in Raj Kanwar’s Sadiyaan. This casting coup may be pulled off by the director who is known for his mostly male dominated subjects. There has been a cold war between the two though, no love seems to have been lost between the two actresses.
Shabana is known for openly being critical of Rekha’s dialogues and performances. The extent was noticed even in hubby Javed Akhtar when he commented that he never felt Rekha was a great actress and her best performance was only in Krrish in recent times.
Stepping into a new territory all together director Raj Kanwar says,
Sadiyaan which means centuries would be an entirely new territory for me. Yes I do want to cast Rekha and Shabanaji together. Work is on for the screenplay. Song recordings have also started. I hope to get the project in place in a few weeks.
Though Shabana Azmi has not given her voice yet about the movie, Rekha seems to be already singing songs of excitment. The actress who is considered as one of the most ravishing beauties even today in the Indian film Industry said,
Shabana whom I call Munni is always a pleasure to work with. When you have a co-star like her you’re challenged to give your best. Sadiyaan would be interesting also because I’ve never worked with Raj Kanwar before. Also, he’s planning to cast a very big male actor in a guest appearance.
With legends like the two of them making their way back into the screen together, a lot will be expected from the duo as well as the director. Anything less than classic, which brings out the best in both the actors will be considered poor direction and waste of talent.
For the admirers, especially those who have a great fondness towards both of them, will be getting a once in a lifetime chance to feast their eyes on beauties with brains, presence and style.
