The bubbly, juvenile and pretty like her name, this Bollywood heartthrob, knows some serious business too! For Zinta, it seems that she's on her way to bag a National Award for herself now. After featuring in big banner commercial movies, Preity Zinta has shifted tracks to art films. She has three films lined up, all of which are with art house directors. She is currently working with Rituparno Ghosh in 'In The Last Lear', with Jahnu Barua in 'Har Pal' (he made 'Maine Ghandhi Ko Nahi Maara') and with Shaji Karun in 'Suryamukhi'. She was being offered big budget Bollywood films but she has declined all of those to concentrate totally on her three small budget niche films this year.

All her three films are with regional directors who have won National Awards for their work. Rituparno Ghosh's 'The Last Lear' is a Hindi-Bangla bilingual flick and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, playing an ageing and vanishing Shakespearean actor. Preity sports a different look throughout the movie with minimal make-up and simple costumes. She plays the role of a theatre actor in the film and will be seen donning traditional Indian dresses, heavy saris and sporting a bindi throughout the film. This will be the first time the bubbly actor has gone for such a makeover in her film career.
She said yes to Jhanu Barua's new Hindi film after a few issues were resolved. Preity clarified:
To begin with the script was in English. I didn't want to do it until I saw the Hindi draft. Now I've agreed to do it. After Rituparno Ghosh's 'The Last Lear' it's again a different route for me. But I'm not doing these films to be different. These are challenging roles. And that's what counts for me
Preity has made a serious decision on her career this year and she's also very excited about Ritu's film on another count as she gets to work with Amitabh Bachchan. Earlier it was in passing, her character in 'Armaan' was in a coma when he arrived and in 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' she barely had two scenes with him. So this would be her first full-fledged film with him.
Amongst Preity's contemporaries - Rani Mukerji, Aishwarya Rai, Kareena and even Urmila Matondkar or Sushmita Sen have been praised in their non-glamorous roles in niche films with highly acclaimed directors. Preity, until now, was never taken seriously to be a part of this league. Her imprints were until now confined to glamorous soapy roles. She has therefore, deliberately chosen to act in these three projects to make her mark and be a contender in the best actor category for the National Awards.
As per a source, 'She is willingly working with R Madhavan and Shiney who are her juniors in the industry, for the sake of being accounted for.'
While almost all top actors have been moderately successful with their experimental roles, all eyes are now gleaned on her. We hope Preity's new career decision adds to her dimples. Cheers!
