The two most awaited movies of the year Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Saawariya and Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om will face something which was not expected i.e. not being screened on the multiplexes. This is due to the reason that they are demanding more percentage of the profits from the distributors than the normal film producer does.
Big distributors of big films Saawariya (Sony Pictures) and Om Shanti Om (Eros International) are supercharging a share of 55% and 60% respectively in comparison to the 48% exacted by the distributors otherwise. Most of the multiplexes of India have pulled the posters of these two films after they have started demanding which is considered as an unfair practice.
The executive director of G7 multiplex in Mumbai says that since they have only screen to view the movies, distributors are mainly doing this in the aim of blackmailing. He also continues saying that distributors do this just before the release of such a big film which is so hyped. He strongly believes that there should be normal rates for all the films. Another vice president marketing and programming official of Cinemax says that these distributors have made them fall in a sad situation for which they will have to obtain mass loss.
Final decision about the percentage of profits to be given to the distributors will be given by Monday. Cinemax has already stopped screening the teasers and promos of the movie and sincerely hopes that the decision will be in their favor. Both major distributors have joined hands and they will stick to their demands giving sleepless nights to the multiplexes.
