It has been reported that, Ram Gopal Verma’s forthcoming film new SHOLAY will be released in mid of May 2007. Ramesh Sippy made the original classic 30 years ago with Amjad Khan as Gabbar. This time Amitabh Bachchan will essay the role of Gabbar in the film.

Sascha Sippy has nothing to worry about, as this Sholay will be different from the one made in 1975. The songs and the song situations are different as compared to the old Sholay. Ramu said, ‘Except the Mehbooba song, all the song in this film are original, I had to take this song in my film because I like it the most, and without this song the movie is incomplete.’

Ramu revealed that he has a group of composers, who will be composing one track each for the movie and each composer will come up with his best possible music. The composers working for this project are Bappi Lahiri, Ganesh Hegde, Amar Mohil and Vishal Bharadwaj.

Earlier, Himesh Reshamiya was to compose the original number ‘Mehbooba’, but as he was busy with his schedule, Ganesh Hegde replaced him.

The story and the characters of the film are entirely different as compared to the old Sholay. Ajay Devgan is playing the role of Veeru instead of Dharmendra Bhajji and Prashant Raj Sachdev is playing the role of Jai instead of Big B.

Another major changes in the star cast are - Nisha Kothari will play Basanti’s role, Sushmita Sen replaced Katrina Kaif for the role of the widow Radha, Mohanlal, the popular South Indian actor will the role of Thakur Bladev Singh, which was played by Sanjeev Kapoor earlier.

Sunil Shetty was considered for the role of Sambha, but Ramu signed Sushant Singh for the role later. Abhishek Bachchan was to play Veeru earlier, but he refused when Ramu discussed the end scene, in which the real-life father and son had to do a duo fight scene each other at the end.

The best part of this film is that Basanti is riding auto-rickshaw in place of tonga. Jai and Veeru are not friends but are guru-shishya. Radha, the widow, wears black dress instead of white. Samba is Gabbar’s right-hand man and confident but not a sidekick. The cop who introduces Thakur to Veeru and Jai has a much larger role to play.

Other major change is Sunidhi Chauhan replaced Asha Bhosle to sing the famous ‘Mehbooba O Mehbooba’ song, which earlier sung by Asha’s late husband R D Burman.

Ram Gopal Verma is working with high hopes from his unit and is expecting to release the production by the mid of May 2007. What impact does Ramu’s SHOLAY leave on the audience could not be remarked. May the new star cast bag the theatres for Sholay (2007).
