It seems that Bollywood is suffering from ‘remaking syndrome’. If the recent trend is any indication then certainly many directors are trying to cash on the magic of old Bollywood blockbusters. And after the remaking of Sholay and Don, now Karz would be remade by director Satish Kaushik, and sizzling and sensational Urmila Matondkar would be playing the role of vamp, which was played by Simi Garewal in the original flick, way back in early 80’s. I wonder whether Urmila would be able to do justice with her new role or make a mockery of it.
Speaking on Urmila Matondkar’s new role director Satish Kaushik said:
For Simi Garewal’s role, we needed someone regal, haughty, mysterious and sensuous - a stylish woman living alone in an ivory tower. Urmila fits the bill perfectly.
And what more singer Himesh Reshammiya, who is better known to sing from his nose rather than his throat, is composing the music. Though Reshammiya is working very hard, nevertheless no matter what he does he will never be able to produce the music which can match charm of lilting songs of original Karz. Even after so many years the music of Karz still charm and entertain us and its charisma hasn’t faded even a bit.
Though Satish Kaushik looks confident that Reshammiya would deliver a nice performance but I doubt that.
Rest of the starcast is yet to be finalized but I fail to understand that why do these directors are trying to draw the mileage from the hits of golden era of Bollywood? It’s high time that they realize that their greed is denting the sanity of old movies, while they try to achieve their objectives. The sooner they understand the better it would be.
