Cinematographer turned director Santosh Sivan is set to begin work on a movie, based on Afghanistan. The movie is known as Wedding Party and will be directed by the BBC.

Sivan has eleven National Film Awards to his credit as a cinematographer in some forty films that he did from the 1980s to mid-1990s. His first major success came to him with the direction of The Terrorist in 1999, which was followed by Asoka in 2001.

The film Wedding Party deals with the arrival of whites and Russians in Afghanistan and takes us to how they trace out nation’s 100-year history. The film’s script has been written by an Italian writer for which the star cast of the film has yet to be decided.

The shooting for the film that was planned in Afghanistan will now be done in Morocco or Ladakh as insurance companies are not comfortable to insure the film if it is shot in troubled areas of Afghanistan.

The world premiere of Sivan first Hollywood film ‘Before the Rains’ starring Rahul Bose, Nandita Das and famous English actors like Jennifer Ehle and John Standing will be held at the 32nd Toronto International Film Festival in coming September.
