After all the talks and the arguments, it’s official now that ‘Eklavya-The Royal Guard’ a movie by Vidhu Vinod Chopra will be India’s entry at the Oscars. For all those filmmakers who made a hue and cry about Eklavya being a lousy entry for the Oscars, an affidavit issued by Film Federation of India has put to bed all the arguments.
Reports have confirmed that an affidavit filed by the Film Federation of India (FFI) before the Bombay High Court clearly states that the jury committee that chosen Eklavya for an Oscar entry has been dissolved and thus the decision is final, which is not subjected to any change.
When Eklavya was announced as the official entry by the jury, a petition was filed against the movie, which was called to have an alleged selection process due to the bias involvement of Ranjit Bahadur, one of the jury memebers, who was also a part of the promotional film made for Eklavya.
Due to all this hue and cry created by different pockets of the industry the chairman of FFI, Vinod Pandey, wrote a letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences seeking time to take a decision on the entry to the Oscars. The academy provided FFI with 10th October as their deadline to provide their final verdict and declaration.
As for all those who are hoping that India bags an Oscars, all will depend on Vidhu Vinod Chopra and team on how they promote the movie in the West. Though as a ray of light one should be aware that the movie received more acclaims in the western countries for the acting and the technical intricacies which are of high standards. Only time can tell if Eklavya was truly the right selection for the Oscars.
