Ram Gopal Verma, who nowadays is highly disappointed from the success of his earlier release RGV Ki Aag, has reason to smile, for his latest release Darling that will survive for some time longer in the cinema halls.
It is hard to categorize ‘Darling’ in any genre. It is neither a horror movie, nor a comedy nor a love triangle but the capriciousness of the story makes the movie worth seeing.
Plot:
The plot of Darling revolves around the three characters Aditya’s (Fardeen Khan), Ashwini (Isha Koppikar) and Geetha Menon (Esha Deol). Fardeen Khan is cheerfully running his life between his gorgeous wife Isha and hot girlfriend Esha, who is also his secretary. Aditya (Fardeen Khan) despite having a beautiful and calm wife cheats with Ashwini (Isha) and every Sunday he moves out with his personal secretary, Geeta (Esha) by lying that he has work to do. In a nutshell, one day Geetha gets pregnant and Aditya refuses to ditch his wife and child and in this tussle Geetha dies accidentally which makes the life of Aditya cheerless.
Short Review:
The story of ‘Darling’ fails to do absolute justice with its horror thriller genre. To make it a thrilling experience, the first half of the movie is filled with extended silence. But after the first half, movie looses its genre and goes humorous. The hospital scene where Geetha hits and tries to terrify Aditya, when he along with his wife Ashwini to visit an injured colleague from Aditya’s office is hilarious rather then petrifying. The climax is also not up to the mark. A ghost making a loving conversation with the person from whom he seeks revenge seems substandard and questionable?
Actors Presentation:
Fardeen Khan, who is just an average actor for me was looking fat and flaccid. I think he has to work on his expressions and dialog delivery too. On the other hand his co-star Esha Deol who is playing the look of a ghost from the Hollywood movie ‘The Ring’, her personality was complementing her character and she did full justice to the role. In addition , I think that the actress has improved a lot in performance and looks whereas, Isha Koppikar was also the right choice for a homely look. Upendra Limaye and other cast members were also good.
On the whole, we can say that Darling is an incomplete horror thriller and it can mainly cater to a multiplex audience.
