The first instinct one harbors after hearing Yash Raj Films is lots of tears, wet hankies, melodrama and hero-heroine’s acid tests at its best, but this time we are in for a surprise! The swanky banner this time has come up with a movie with a sports theme - Chak De India.
Shahrukh Khan (Kabir Khan) and Vidya Malvade (Vidya) play the leads and the movie is a hockey trivia. SRK plays the hockey coach of a woman Hockey Team who wants the World Cup Title to be played in Australia desperately. Vidya plays a Sikh girl who has a passion for sports but her orthodox family fails to applaud that (Did somebody say ‘Bend It like Beckham’?). The movie is based on the impediments which the team faces in its journey to achieve the title and the sublime grit of the coach in it.

The movie is said to be a real life story of former hockey goal keeper Mir Ranjan Negi. Negi was hockey goal keeper of the Indain team during Asian Games (1982) and India was routed by Pakistan 1-7 in that tournament. Negi, humiliated, started coaching National Women Hockey Team and the team went on to win Gold at the Manchester Commonwealth games.
Bollywood has seen earlier movies on sports theme with mixed box-office fates. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Rok Sako to Rok lo, Bend it like Beckham, Ehsaas-the feeling are few which tingle the memory and further many pipeline projects for sports in Bollywood presently.
The movie has the SRK factor and the unusual hockey drama, which makes it, anticipated release anyway. The movie is tentatively scheduled to release on 10th August.
