bipasha basu john abrahim

When Bipasha Basu talks of her boyfriend and her best friend in Delhi, the whole country listens. She was recently in Delhi launching a high-end diamond jewelry line. Yahoo! India caught her gushing about the things that matter to her. By her own admission, she loves diamonds and John. Only, diamonds a bit more than John. And John, she says gifts her diamonds often.

Jane Austen had shown for all generation of girls how important money is in life and in any relationship. Our sultry beauty knows this alright and does not mix up her priorities. Diamonds first and then John. She calls diamonds ‘truly her best friends’. Today’s movie stars are youth icons and young people throughout the country often look up to them for guidance. In this apparently simple statement of making diamonds one’s best friends is the real picture of our changing societies and the role of women in them. Indian feminism has finally caught up with her western counterparts. The Indian woman is no longer financially or even sexually dependant on the male. The woman has her own diamonds and can live without the ties of marriage. Simply put, she calls the shots. And men are often afterthoughts.

Bipasha is in more than one way the new face of India. She is aggressive, into a live-in relationship and gutsy. Her roles in movies like Corporate have helped this perception of her in Indian minds. A few months back she had the guts to complain against the male organizers of a show in the US where she was to perform. She accused them of physical harassment. Bipasha’s frankness is what endears her to us. She also said that she liked John formally dressed rather than in casual clothes. Bipasha appears to be rather a young classicist in her personal tastes.
